Koh Phangan Parties - Full Moon Party - Half Moon Party - Any Party - We Cover Them All!

Temporary Insanity

I spent some time with the guys that organise the Temporary Insanity parties last week, I’m pretty impressed with their goals and visions, it’s refreshing to see a group of organisers try to break the tired old Koh Phangan party template which is usually paint some trees with glowing paint, turn off all the lights except a bunch of black lights and then recruit a DJ who plays pre-mixed trance CD’s all night. Oh and lets not forget to put a group of intimidating looking gangster types at the door and take 200-400 Baht per person who wants to attend.
So I asked the Temporary Insanity team to send me something like a mission statement, something I could present to people and show them that this is going to be something different. Here are some choice excerpts from the information they sent me, first of all a biopsy of Temporary Insanity and their coming event…

Temporary insanity is a fresh new event promotion team who held their first event in Bangkok, October 2007. Since then Temporary Insanity has hosted 3 successful events in UK. Now they are descending upon Koh Phangan. The Temporary Insanity team are made up of the same people that shook the UK with Refocused Parties for 3 years 2001-2003. Bringing big DJ names such as Brandon Block, Leroy Thornhill, Alex P, Lottie, Yousef, Eric Prydz, Lee Carbrera, Hed Kandi and many more to the decks. Temporary Insanity plan to bring the worlds biggest names in all genres of music to various destinations across the globe. Wherever the party people are Temporary Insanity team intend to be there. The official creater of Temporary Insanity is a UK based DJ and producer named Ed Kurno. He has recently collaborated with vocalist Abigail Bayley (Hit tracks Just cant get enough and fuzz) and Turntable superstar Goerge Jarmillio (aka who da funk) famous for the track shiny disco balls. To create a track named overdrive. The track has been supported by Eric Morillo, Judge Jules, Lisa Loud and Matt Samuels. The track is destined to be the big one in Ibiza 2008. Ed needs no Introduction, he has played with every big name in the business. He has rocked dance floors all over the world with his jacking house music. You can see Ed rock the place on 21st January. Temporary Insanity will also be joined by by the man which appeared in the first ever Refocused party. Mr Brandon Block. No better man to keep the crowd going all night long.

They also were nice enough to explain to me the reason they picked…..
the venue for their first party on Koh Phangan…

So to the Weanghthai Resort on 21st January 2008 for an event not to be missed, gonna rock the Island. Temporary Insanity have chosen to have their first party on Koh Phanang at the Weanghthai Resort because at night when lit up the resort resembles and Ibiza style outdoor club. Also appearing live are temporary insanity’s team of professional sexy dancers. Also look out for the Tequila medicine girls. There will be a welcome drink on entry and promotions running throughout the night. Limited Tickets are available and can be purchased from Koh Phangan information center, Bantai Rd for 500 baht, to avoid disappointment get your tickets early.

As you can see, they really are trying to bring something fresh to the island, we will be there on the night streaming the whole event live to the rest of the world across the internet, so if you can’t make the party then fire up your browser and listen in.

Brandon Block Rocks The Fridge!

I knew it was going to be a good night by just looking at the grin on the face of Jon, who owns The Fridge. I turned up pretty early, about 2 hours before Brandon was set to play and I’m glad I did, it was great fun to watch Jon and his crew prepare for the onslaught.

Brandon himself turned up at around 11:30pm and promptly disappeared down onto the beach and lost himself in the crowds, he was out there showing his face and it was the perfect thing to do as by the time he was ready to play a crowd of people were waiting around outside the club.

At around midnight or just after Brandon wandered up to the DJ booth and starting assisting the warm-up DJ, it wasn’t long before he had taken over the decks completely and the party was underway.

Brandon Block

The crowd were obviously enjoying the show, The Fridge is a small venue and Brandon used this to his advantage by interacting with the crowd all evening, certainly it went a long way to making the night a great success. Surely this must have been one of the highlights of this years party scene on Koh Phangan.
I’m looking forward to seeing Brandon play a bigger venue in January, it will be interesting to judge the contrast, although I’m sure he will still put on one hell of a performance.

Brandon Block on Boxing Day!

We finally got confirmation of the rumoured Brandon Block booking at The Fridge for boxing day, there was some confusion over this as I had been told previously that he wasn’t even in Thailand over Christmas so could not be playing on Koh Phangan.

It seems this was false information and I am happy to tell you that Brandon will indeed be playing at The Fridge in Haad Rin on boxing day evening.Although Brandon is booked to play his first official party on Koh Phangan in 12 years at the Temporary Insanity bash later in January it’s great to see him doing something in Haad Rin over the holiday period. If you would like to hear him I suggest you get in early, The Fridge is not a large venue and will fill up very quickly.

We will be attempting to pull a recording straight out of the mixer this time, hopefully we will be able to give you his entire set as a download.

Full Moon Party - 24th December 2007

Surely there can be no better place to spend Christmas Eve than at the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan? It certainly seemed that the thousands of people in Haad Rin last night had the same opinion, I have never seen a happier Full Moon Party crowd than I did yesterday, a real friendly vibe.

I will admit I was a little lazy this month, I did my usual round of the popular bars very quickly and then headed off to The Fridge where I spent the night sitting at the bar watching the crowd in the street have fun.

I did meet this couple, Cullen and Lana (not sure I spelled that right) and they were quite a good laugh, Cullen was definitely enjoying the liquid refreshment in The Fridge and Lana didn’t seem too far behind him!

Full Moon Party

The Fridge was a little quiet last night, but that was pretty cool also, as it meant I got to chat to some friends without being squashed by the usual crowds. I’m sure the place will be a lot busier on boxing day as Brandon Block is booked to play.
That just about brings this little report to an end, no recording for you this month as I am intending to bring you a full length downloadable MP3 of the entire Brandon Block set from The Fridge on boxing day.
