Full Moon Party - 29th June 2007
A very humid night saw one of the busiest full moon parties in recent months, the beach was cram packed from end to end. I am sure many people who have been predicting an end to the full moon party are all sitting rather quietly now wondering how they could be so wrong. This is the low season after all.
It has to be said that Drop In Bar are doing an amazing job of reforming their particular part of the beach. What used to be a row of bars with second rate sound systems all competing for the ears of the party people is now dominated by the excellent sounds from Drop In Bar. A really cool area of the party to hang out and completely booming.
We had a few problems with our camera as the images above show, can you believe the lens kept steaming up? It was so hot inside the bars that every time we removed the lens cap it was steamed over in seconds.
We met a rather interesting person towards the end of the party, this guy was walking alone and seemed to be having a whale of a time! So we grabbed him for a quick interview….
He is named ‘Rizzla’ and comes from Ipswich in the UK. His first time in Thailand and has only been here 4 days. He spent a couple of days in Bangkok and a couple of days in Pattaya before heading to Koh Phangan. He is intending to stay for three more weeks but is not sure if he will be staying on the island for the whole time.
When we asked him what he thought of the full moon party he simply replied ‘Banging!’ and wandered off again……
There were the usual assortment of colourful characters staggering around, one of the things I love about the full moon party are the people that make the effort to dress up in crazy costumes. I spotted a really cool Batman at one stage but wasn’t quick enough to grab a picture of him. I did manage to snap Superman and a couple of cowgirls though.
I also found these young ladies at around 1:15am, rather early to be sitting on the floor in a back street but they seemed to be having fun!
I made the very serious mistake of trying to ask them a few questions and get their opinions of the party, to be truthful I had problems even getting their names, I was thrown things like ‘Emma the slag’ so decided to smile politely and leave them alone.
The only bad thing in my mind about last nights party was my usual complaint. The dumb ass people who read the lonely planet guidebook and decide they should not pay more than 50 Baht for a cab at 5am from Haad Rin to Thongsala.
I have a friend visiting me from Scotland at the moment, as we approached the cabs to try and grab one home I told him watch this, we will spend 30 minutes waiting whilst some idiot decides he doesn’t want to pay what the cab driver is asking. Sure enough, not only one person but half the darn cab we got into all started to argue about the price with the driver. So here’s a couple of pictures of some stingy backpackers who had the cheek to tell the driver they were not going to pay him the 100 Baht he asked because in their own words ‘that is a months wages for you we are not paying’.
