Black Moon Culture - 14th July 2007
Mac’s Bay Resort in Ban Tai plays host to the increasingly popular Black Moon Culture event. The resort is an excellent choice of venue, with a wide tract of beach. There is plenty of room for revelers who wish to take a break from the pounding bass and psychedelic backdrop and take a walk along the shoreline.
The organisers have done a clever job of covering part of the beach with a fake ceiling made of fluorescent material, this defines the dance floor. Because of this the whole party has a more club like feel, much less free format than the other parties upon Koh Phangan.
Black Moon Culture seems to get more and more busy with each passing month, the DJ’s mix trance with borderline techno beats, lots of energy being pushed out of the top rate sound system with some real crazy dancing going on just in front of the speakers.
The two bars at each end of the main area are well staffed, most times you don’t have to wait for service and the drinks are fairly cheap. Unlike most parties there is also food available from a small selection of stalls……
The only slight annoyance is the fact that the chill out seating area is placed right next to the dance floor and by the end of the evening the spill over can go either way, sometimes people dancing where people are trying to sit at other times people sitting where people are trying to dance.
We went in search of a likely looking candidate for a quick interview, after studying a group of people almost completely covered in glowing body paint for a while we finally chose this guy. Why did we choose him? Just look at his face, he is completely messed up and was having a great time surrounded by young Thai girls.
His name is ‘Zab’ and he’s from Scotland, he tells us he has developed a taste for Sang Som as a surrogate for Scotch whiskey. He has been on Koh Phangan for a few weeks now and has been to a few parties although they are not the primary reason he decided to visit the island.
We asked him why he was with so many young girls, he just winked in reply, gave them all a big Scottish grin and returned to the dance floor. Cheers Zab, we hope the rest of your stay on Koh Phangan is as much fun.
You can find a recording made at tonight’s Black Moon Culture in the download section, be sure to check it out.
